🌍 Frøya: From Hidden Gem to Award-Winning Film Location 🎬🏆
Big news for film locations! The stunning Norwegian island of Frøya has just won the Best European Filming Location award at the EUFCN Location Awards in Berlin.
➡️ Featured in Netflix’s Billionaire Island, Frøya wasn’t just a beautiful setting, it became a character in the story. With its dramatic coastlines, charming fishing villages, and untouched wilderness, it perfectly embodied the fictional island of Brima. But beyond its breathtaking scenery, Frøya also brought something extra: authentic Norwegian culture. ✨
👉 Key aspects to consider (as highlighted by Screen Daily):
"Midgard Film Commission, the organization that covers the region of Trøndelag, has been integral to the transformation of Frøya into a film friendly destination... A meeting in October 2019 between the Midgard Film Commission, mayor Kristin Furunes Strømskag, and cultural consultant Mona Elisabeth Skarsvåg, among others, helped set events in motion that would solidify Frøya’s status as Norway’s go-to film island. Since then, productions shot on Frøya include the Nordisk feature Everybody Hates Johan, Spaett Film’s Norwegian Dream, and the Viaplay hit GoldRun, each building on the experiences of the other." 💡 My take? This was no accident. Frøya’s rise as a film location was years in the making, strong local collaboration, long-term planning, and positive production experiences paved the way for Billionaire Island.
